 I think you're seeing a conflict between a userspace sound mixing daemon
 and D-RATS writing directly to the OSS sound device.  Can you kill the
 pulseaudio daemon and see if that temporarily alleviates the issue?  That
 will tell me if I'm right or if there's something else going on.

 Unfortunately sound on linux is a moving and hard-to-hit target...
