We did some testing of running Winlink natively directly into D-STAR 
rigs here.  It did work, but Winlink (the software) had no idea about 
the transmitter time-outs and couldn't recover.

It'd be a trivial change for the Winlink folks to put in a "D-STAR Radio 
passthrough" mode.
