The best thing to do is get a programming cable with the FTDI chip
such as the PC03 from Baofeng Tech.

But if the programming cable that you have has a counterfeit Prolific
chip in it, you'll have to download, install and select the Prolific
v3.2.0.0 device driver. You've got nothing to lose by trying it.
