[chirp_users] Bunch of questions

Let me first apologize, I don’t really know what I’m talking about.

Working with a friend who has two new Retivis RT5 radios – not a major problem. One radio allow me to change information relating to a channel, the other requires that I delete the channel and re-add it – funky but workable.

Other minor hassles are that one is ver 1FP3-25 and the other is ver 1FB297; since he wants both radios the same, that’s not a problem, cut and paste from one img to the other and it’s done

Since I use Chirp to program my radios - and some friends – I suggested he get it on his computer. Now the fun begins.

He runs UBUNTU and while I’m somewhat familiar with Linux I got stopped cold.

First error: access to USB0 denied (or words to that effect) chmod 777 /dev/usb0 fixed that.

Second error: Ubuntu failed to communicate with radio. 'serial' object has no attribute 'settimeout'

Pretty much stopped dead, however he has two versions of python on that computer python 2.7.12 and a python 3 (sorry didn’t get the full version). If I’m reading this correctly, if he were running python3 the above wouldn’t be a problem <that’s a question>; if that’s the case, how does he tell ubuntu / chirp to use py3?

…

Remember, I said I don’t know what I’m talking about, can someone guide?? Thanks //al

I set both his radios up with my Windows box – so for the nonce we’re okay but he’d like to put in a lot more freqs (mistake!) and it’ll be a lot easier on him to have chirp running.
