[chirp_users] HTX 202

I seem to recall that the first ones could, and then the manufacturer changed them so they couldn't.
That is what I meant, my first one supposedly could, but I had to trade it in for a new one when it had problems while still under warranty, so I never got a chance to find out.

NONE of these can be modded outside 144-148. I've heard it said so many times but no one has shown it as working.

I have wondered if they have a micro battery.
I had one unit that was the last of the ones that could be modded, and while it was under warranty, mine pooped out, so RS gave me a new one in replacement, but it could not be modded.
I seem to remember that the mod would expand the frequencies.

      Hi Glenn
I will agree with Ronny. The 202 was built strictly for the ham band with no out of band receive or transmit. It had an exceptional RX front end rejection of out of band junk compared to today's radios.
By today's radios it is big but it works great, I still use mine. I've had to replace the micro battery inside but it's still ticking.

Glen it was based on the 02AT. NOT PC programmable. It was made by Maxxon for Tandy. It will also NEVER go out of the Ham bands no matter what someone puts on the Internet.. Good Radio! If you want programming for a radio cross ship me your 202 and all the toys with it and I'll ship you a UV-5R with big antenna, battery, and speaker mic. No problem. The 202 is a much better radio IMO. And I have 2 UV5Rs. K4RJJ Ronny

          Hi,
The discussion of the iCom made me wonder if I would be able to dig out my old HTX 202 that I got from Radio Shack about 25 years ago.
It was based on some iCom model, and my old radio has the same microphone plug on the top as the one on my current radio. The antenna and squelch and volume buttons might get in the way though.
          Thanks.
