Hi glenn
That's  news to me. I have never come across any mods like that.
If your looking for that type of rig I would suggest a cheap Baufeng radio then.
All I know is that one time we took a 202 and another more modern ht (with a wide front end) into a high noise area of Toronto and the 202 had no trouble quieting the intermod noise the other ht was suffering from.
