Regardless, the battery that came with the BF-F8HP is considerably bigger and heavier.

Just a head's-up about those stated battery capacities.

In the world of LED's, flashaholic's have the term 'Chinese Lumens'. There also appear to be 'Chinese milliamps'.

I have some Baofeng batteries that are model BL-8. They weigh 86g and claim 2800 mAh. I should throw them on our analyzer to confirm, but given that Wouxun KG-816, and UVD-1P batteries weigh 86g and are claimed at 1700 mAh, an Anytone AT-3318 battery that is claimed 1800 mAh weighs 96g, a 1600 mAh Xianjing battery for the XJ-928 weighs 93g. Indeed the only 7.4V battery case that I've seen that can yield a capacity in the vicinity of 2800 mAh is the AA Battery case for a Wouxun 1P, and it needs 5 LiFeS2 lithium primary cells to accomplish approx 3000 mAh, and even that will tip the scales at 108g. (LiFeS2 weighs 25% less than Li-Co when packed into the same volume, and has 3X more energy capacity). I think it's safe to assume that all these rechargeable battery packs are using Lithium Cobalt chemistry, and that therefore Baofeng is in the habit of overstating their battery capacities.

The three F9’s I purchased came from the seller Foscom via Amazon.   All three of them had issues of some sort, none particularly serious but issues none the less.   One of them was missing the side plastic piece opposite the PTT.  The nameplates have fallen off on all of them and one of the radios will not work with an external microphone.

I honestly think the extra couple bucks for the F8 is worth it and I’ll probably end up with another one. 

Though I do like the box the BF-F9 V2+ comes in better..  ;)

Only thing I can say is the BF-F9 V2+ didn't work. The battery release would have needed to be sanded if I would have kept it.

Since it was not programmable for repeaters, useless to me.  There was only a $6.00 price difference so an F8 after this experience was a no brainer for me.  I tried multiple resets and used Chirp with the F9 and no dice.  An isolated bat unit?  Maybe but the F8HP

turned out better for me.  Kurt

There is nothing wrong with the BF-F9 V2+  -- That’s all marketing hype from Baofeng.  Both work fine with Chirp.

The firmware is up to date on both the F9 and F8.

The only real difference is you get the better owner’s manual and a better antenna with the BF-F8.   The batteries that came with my F9’s were 1800 Mah.   If you have a problem with a tight battery on either the F9 or F8 just hold down the release button firmly when inserting/removing the battery.

The fact that you can get the better manual on the ‘Net (miklor) and that you’ll likely replace both stock antennas anyways really makes it a moot point.

Ignore the hype and enjoy either radio.

thank heavens for the liberal Amazon return policy.  I bought an F8HP and am much happier.  Worked just fine.

The F8HP was listed out of stock when I tried to get one originally but had come back up online after my experience with 

the F9.  F9 didn't work with Chirp or possibly was dorked by it.  Master reset didn't work.  The 3800mah pack had to be pried off.

The BF-F8HP works perfectly with Chirp in spite of the disclaimer.  Get an F8HP.  Kurt KC9LDH
