Has anyone tried using the ICOM IC746PRO with D-RATS? Would appreciate
hearing tips and tricks, experiences.

Seems like it should work. It has a three data connections options:

[DATA], [ACC], and [MIC] (Manual, p. 78). 

It shows both direct connection and TNC usage.

It *is limited to 9600 baud max. But that is cited in the D-RATS FAQ...

The IC-746PRO provides connections for a Packet TNC and for 9600 bps data operations.
D-RATS supports operations through KISS mode TNCs connected to radios.
So, if you have a TNC connected to your IC-746PRO, D-RATS is available to you.
Another option would be to use the D-STAR DV Adapter from
http://dstarradioclub-international.com/DStarDVAdapterPurchase.aspx
It will work on any radio that will pass 9600 bps data.
That will give you D-STAR Voice and Data on your '746.
