 The settings look right to me.  Is there a firewall on this machine (or
 between this machine and the internet)?  Can you get to gmail's SMTP
 server with something else like Outlook Express?

 You can also try this from a command prompt:

   telnet smtp.gmail.com 587

 If there is a firewall installed, I'd disable it completely and try that.
 It's entirely possible that D-RATS needs to be added to the "whitelist" so
 that it can access that particular port.  Since sending email is commonly
 done by virii and worms, many firewalls block that access unless you grant
 it specifically, or it's a known common email program.
