I would like to suggest the creation of a process of collecting the
information contained on the MCI Triage tags to utilize DRATS in assisting
mass casualty incidents.
All agencies use some form of Mass Casualty Incident Triage tags to
prioritize treatment and transportation of the injured.
Is is there a way we can create a standard form GUI based on the attached
TRIAGE form?
DRATS users would input some or all of the available data quickly
(Treatment area). Tags have unique serial numbers for tracking.
Users will copy over the available data from the patient tags, then
forward them on to the IC, Transporting agency or Hospital to receive the
patient. As patient status data changes or missing data is updated, the
tag would be time stamped to ensure that the most current data is listed
first.
I see the need for a quick input method. Check boxes for selecting
relevant data, followed by drop downs or fields for descriptive text. The
key is to keep the layout of the form similar to the actual tag. Data
would then be able to be printed as text only or viewed/printed as if
looking at the origional tag.
input time is critical. 30 seconds or less is the goal for basic patient
vitals, injuries, status (Immediate, Delayed, Minor)
Age, sex, contact info for next of kin, prior medical history (disease and
medications/allergies), transportation status (where and how)
If this form was pre-loaded in DRATS, there would be a simple way to
manage MCI triage data via amateur radio that does not currently exist.
Keep in mind, it only takes one radio amateur to run a station, several
non-hams could be inputting data.
In recent CERT exercises, I have noticed that the quick transit of acurate
patient status and transportation data is one area that is lacking in the
field.
Please contact me directly if you like as this is a rather broad
description. (916)508-8308 JIm Kapphahn KB6JST
