Ouch.  I have a serial-only GPS18 and it works just fine.  I thought you
could select NMEA or Garmin mode with a utility of some kind...

I think that a couple of other people are using GPSGate for various
reasons.  I've not looked for a Garmin protocol spec, but I could see
about adding support to D-RATS for the Garmin protocol directly if the
USB one really doesn't support NMEA.
