[drats_users] 2.10 b1 issue with maps

Okay, Ronald sent me his debug log with a clear error in it.  The
problem *is* related to the change I made between 9 and 10b1, even
though it's a very vague association.

So, I'll get this fixed up for the next round.  Dave, this may have been
your problem as well, if you happened to receive some specifically
broken garble.
