I just posted 0.2.10b1 with a proposed fix for this.  Can you try it out
and let me know if it works for you?  I was able to copy the above
string of characters into the chat buffer and have them display on the
other end successfully.

As a side effect, any unicode characters that get entered into the chat
box should make it to the remote side if the packet is cleanly received.
 This will enable lots of other character sets, I think.  Note that if
the packet is corrupted and you have "raw text" mode turned on, I still
strip out everything other than straight ASCII to avoid corrupting the
display.
