AVG acted like a man in the middle attack when set to protect e-mail. 
Gave up after years of use and ripped it out.

Defender is "deprecated."

Try Microsoft Security Essentials. I use that and Spybot S&D (version 
1.6.0.30 - I shun 2.0 +)
