[chirp_users] Install chirping on OS 10.11.6 help

Aloha all, I've been trying for three weeks now to install chirp on my macbook pro os 10.11.6 El Capitan. the chirp icon appears on my desk top but nothing happens when i click it
i have installed the python runtime as directed.
any advice is greatly appreciated!!
