It’s a long story but, in short, the charge light on the charger would never indicate a full charge. The Ebay dealer would not honor any attempts to reconcile the issue. So, I sent the whole thing back for a refund. But, while it was in my possession, I managed, with the great help from you Chirp folks, to download Chirp and just barely begin to learn how to apply it to my radio(s).

But, here’s the deal. Since I sent that Baofeng back, I’d just received the latest model of the Baofeng UV-5R 8 watt unit. I want to clone my Chirp stored frequencies to that new model I just got.

The last time I tried to use Chirp, I tired to install the National Simplex Frequency and, name it. When I hit store, NO NAME was there. I tried it a few times and each time, it would not store with the name I applied to that frequency. Anyway, what say you all on my plan?

Hi Scott,

You won't be able to directly upload the image from your original
radio to the one you currently have. But once you've made your first
successful download from your radio and saved and unedited copy to be
kept in a safe place as a backup, you can load your saved image from
from the original radio and use copy-and-paste to transfer the memory
rows between tabs.

A more thorough method (the one I prefer because it transfers more
settings) is to import the image of the previous radio into a tab for
the new radio. A guide for doing this can be found here.
