Check whether modules (drivers) are loaded with the command /lsmod/

Is your computer recognizing the cable/? /Check by removing the cable
from your computer, put it back and take a look at /dmesg | tail -20/  -
hopefully you'll see something like:

  4343.736241] usb 5-2: Product: USB-Serial Controller
[ 4343.736242] usb 5-2: Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.
[ 4344.226552] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial_generic
[ 4344.226583] usbserial: USB Serial support registered for generic
[ 4344.239417] usbcore: registered new interface driver pl2303
[ 4344.239453] usbserial: USB Serial support registered for pl2303
[ 4344.239519] pl2303 5-2:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
[ 4344.260424] usb 5-2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

HT

BTW, I had problems getting Linux Mint running CHIRP to recognize my
Wouxon KG-6UV but it was automatically recognized by my Arch Linux laptop, I gave up and just use CHIRP on my laptop.
