You can install a full version on a 4GB drive.

Actually Glenn, that's not a bad idea.
I have a spare 64gb thumb that I installed PuppyLinux on, but couldn't get it to access the wifi nic, so useless for using with Chirp.
Not sure if Ubuntu full would install on the thumb or not.
May try that.
Getting really close to being off-topic, so going to move ahead with that plan off list.
Thanks for the input Glenn (et al)...

Why not just put a distro that does work on an SD card or USB stick and boot to that for using Chirp?

Debian Squeeze does not work fine with the Chirp dailys, or I wouldn't have a problem.
Squeeze (Deb v6), is missing a couple important utilities in the libraries that are required for running 'chirpw' and having it config correctly.
It would be a major update to get my Debian install to accept those changes.
I'm tired of messing with it.
I've mostly changed over to Android for my computer activities.

Debian works fine with CHIRP, and ditto to Ubuntu and Mint – just remember that you need to add the repository that includes chirp-daily. Add this and you’re good to go. Details are at the CHIRP website.

Probably going to end up burning a FULL backup of OS, data, and media to DVD from the netbook (the only TRUE computer I have left), wiping the Debian Squeeze v6 and installing the latest Ubuntu, or other distro - if someone has a better idea of another that works better with Chirp..
