Yes. The way CHIRP is packaged is different than it was when this "hack"
was floating around.

One thing you can do is use CHIRP to set either (or both or some
combination) of the band limits to 100 MHz and 999 MHz. That will allow you
to key any STEP compatible frequency from 100.0000 MHz to 999.9975 MHz into
the VFO. If you discover an out-of-band frequency that works for you, then
you can program it into a channel manually and CHIRP will honor it just
fine (just don't try to edit it within CHIRP).
