Jim,

Sorry to have to ask this here, but the chirp website isn't helpful on this point; I have several BF-666S radios that I would like to be able to program with CHIRP, and would like to know who to send one to so the reverse engineering can be done.

Paul,

You "download" to transfer data from the radio to the computer. You "upload" to transfer data from the computer to the radio.

You can not use File -> New to start the programming for your radio. CHIRP won't know what radio it is for and therefore has no idea what features are available. You must download from the radio first to get a template that is compatible with your radio.

But in your case, you can't because it doesn't look the the TYT TH-UV5R is a supported radio. I may not be looking in the right place, but I can't find evidence that there is a TYT TH-UV5R.

The CHIRP home page lists the radios that are supported by CHIRP

The CHIRP FAQ page explains the steps to get your radio supported by CHIRP.

The CHIRP Beginners Guide explains how to get started with CHIRP if you have a supported radio.
