[chirp_users] Issues w/ getting UV-5R to communicate w/ CHIRP on a Mac

Hi guys. I messed up with my first cable and got a junk Prolific cable. After about 2 weeks of trying I gave up on it and got a FTDI cable. The FTDI was a breeze to connect. If you want to save yourself a lot of time and hassle go with the FTDI. It cost more but it will probably work.

Had this MacBook Pro for 24
months and never got that message. But I will try your
suggestion, hang on a sec...
Ok I'm back. Right click - Open gives you the selection
to open from an unidentified developer. Maybe Jens
can fix that. I'm running 64 bit OSX Mavericks 10.9 and
a recent but not shiny new daily build I it's
chirp-daily-20131031. Installer went smooth. Said it would
yank all other PL2303 drivers which it did and left
me with this one
/dev/cu.PL2303-000013FA. Plugged the cable in, opened Chirp,
selected the driver and
it read the radio perfectly. I then transfered the read data
back to the radio, a KGUV6D-V2. Thanks for the
advise on the right click on the package. I'm going to
CC this to the group, some Mac users might find
my input
either useful or annoying. Oh and on the MBP you can use a
double finger gesture tap on the touchpad
to get a right click. And hats off to Jens for redoing the
working driver in English.
Milton.

That’s part of Apple’s “nanny” mode.
Ctrl-right click, click on open and it will ask you if you
want to install the package.

UV-5Rs to use
the Motorola frequencies used by a few other race teams we
run with. I'm using a Mac, OSX 10.8.5, and have
already installed the PL2023 USB-Serial driver successfully
(I believe). I obtained the driver from: http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=229&pcid=41
I've also confirmed that the USB-serial driver
appears to be installed correctly, as described here: http://plugable.com/2011/07/12/installing-a-usb-serial-adapter-on-mac-os-x

'/dev/cu.usbserial' in the Port field when
attempting to download from the radio (which I didn't
see before installing the driver). However, when I
actually attempt to download, the 'Cloning' modal
shows for a few
seconds w/o progress, then I see the "Radio did not
respond" error. The USB cable is an
"official" Baofeng cable that I received with the
radios from a trusted reseller, and is definitely seated
correctly. I've tried using different USB ports,
turning the radio on/off, restarting several times, etc. but
just cannot get the radio to talk to my Mac.
