Neil,

It depends on what the Firmware release  is, not the Model number.

The newest version of CHIRP now supports many if not all of the newest firmware releases.

I have both a BFB231 and a BFB291 unit and the newest Daily Build 20121013 supports it.

 

2 things to keep in mind:

(1) The setting tab on the BFB291 and newer  is still a work in progress.

(2) If you have more than one UV5R, and one is BFB291 or higher, the other BFB281 or lower, the image files are Not transferrable
between them.

Most have only one UV5R so this issue is irrelevant.

Does anyone know if CHIRP supports the newer BAOFENG UV-5RC?  Supposedly the BAOFENG software will support the new "C" model withe
the improved case and battery.
