Hello,
I tried Chirp both for Windows XP and for Linux / Ubuntu. Since the
version in the PPA for ham radio in Ubuntu is not the latest, I installed
from the compressed file on the chrip web downloads page. I also
downloaded and installed the Windows exe and installed it on the same
laptop - dual booting into Windows XP or Ubuntu Precise.
I am using a G4ZIP dual usb interface - it does CAT and Sound Card modes.
In Windows it uses COM4 and under Linux it uses /dev/ttyUSB1 although
/dev/ttyUSB0 is also available but I think that's the external sound card
in the G4ZIP interface.
Both versions don't list the Yaesu FT-897 so I used the Yaesu FT-857 US
Version instead.
I tried the Linux version - no luck downloading - I got the error was
expecting 4 something and received 0 error message. I noticed I could set
to ;/dev/ttyUSB0 or USB1 but I could NOT set the baud rate which is 38,400.
In Linux I looked at the devices: ls /dev/ttyUS? -l
I saw they belonged the group dialout so I added my username to group
dialout using sudo adduser username dialout and logged my user out and
rebooted the system. No luck.
I tried putting the FT897 into memory mode when starting, and I tried
leaving it in VFO mode.
Is there something I'm missing?
