Hi John
just to be sure, the correct operation sequence to upload to ft897 is:
- switch on the radio while pressing both <- -> buttons to push it to
clone mode
- prepare chirp for upload selecting menu Radio - Upload to radio and
setting the com port (do not press Ok yet)
- start receive on the radio pressing A button
- press Ok in chirp dialog to start upload
upload (should) then start immediately and both radio and chirp show the
operation via a progress bar.
From what you wrote I suppose you did it correctly but please try once
again.
If the radio fails immediately after the A button pressure I strongly
suspect you have other programs using the com port, you can confirm this
by closing chirp and placing radio in clone receive, my radio is in
"receiving" since 5 minutes now and didn't fails yet.
If radio fails only at the chirp upload start, please collect debug.log
and send it here to the list (instructions can be found here
http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/How_to_report_issues#Getting-your-debug-log
)
Hope this can help
