Duffy,

Does the V82 have D-STAR module installed? If so, make sure its not picking up stray RF from the PC. If it is, do something to minimize the RFI (change frequencies or move the rig to a little farther away).

I programmed my '92AD with a series of new frequencies last night using chirp and was having the same problem. I notice it would occasionally spit out "R2D2" noises and was showing about 2/3 scale on the S meter. I'm pretty sure the radio was pumping out data on the low speed data port because of the RFI from the PC and that was interfering with chirps attempts to communicate with the rig.

Removing the antenna and switching the rig to a non-DV channel made the S meter reading go to zero, and that solved the problem for me.

I suspect receiving a D-STAR signal that contained low-speed data would cause the same problem.
