[drats_users] DRATS questions

Joe,

We use 145.67 and 145.65 but any voice frequency can be used I think. Check your local band plan also for dstar repeater frequencies. I don’t know of a D-STAR frequency as such but you may want to check with your local band plan co-ordination persons and I would suggest trying to stay away from 146.43 simplex and above because it sounds like ‘white noise’ and other may monitor those frequencies, especially if 146.52, the national calling frequency for example, is used in your area.

I hope this helps,

take care,

Rolan,

You mentioned simplex frequency in the below post. Is there a certain simplex for D-Star? The reason I ask is my club is going to

Be doing some testing in the next few weeks and do not want to tie up a local repeater.

Don,

I am not sure if the following is what you are asking but you can send files using dstar and at the same time as you are talking if you wish. We have done that several times. What I don’t know is if the file takes longer than when one is talking what happens. I assume the repeater stays up unless timed out but the person on the other end wound not hear any voice but should have some indication that the repeater was still busy. If you were using dstar simplex then timing out would of course not be a problem.

The dstar voice occupies about 6k bw and d-rats about 1.1 k BW and they coexist by some protocol which I don’t know.

I hope this helps some. We have a dstar repeater on 25B usually but we can put it on any node so if you want to try some file transfers using rf dstar and coupled via the internet I would be glad to run some experiments on reflector 15C which is a data reflector. I can change our dstar repeater to reflector 15C anytime so if anyone wants to work via reflector 15C rf I would be glad to give it a try.

1) Can D-RATS use a D-STAR RF link and Files to transfer files via the DRATS ftp? One pdf I read said that the D-STAR RF link only works for Chat and QST.

2) Is there an iPad version of D-RATS?
