 The zero is not irrelevant, it is part of a two-digit zero-padded hex
 byte.  The calculator generates it with the zero properly and should be
 entered in that way.  If you show up on APRS, then something along the way
 is being tolerant of the checksum being incorrect and is assuming the
 zero.  I don't necessarily agree that it's the correct behavior for D-RATS
 to mimic this leniency, especially since it doesn't serve a function or
 transmit less data.
