Hi Bill,

I just updated my Ubuntu machine via the repo and it worked OK. I had to
click on the "check" button in the update manager before it saw the
newer d-rats version, try that.

You do need to have the repo:
http://d-rats.com/apt karmic beta
added and selected per the instructions:
http://www.d-rats.com/component/content/article/2-misc-news/31-d-rats-apt-repository/

The instructions just show how to add the release version. To add the
betas as well, just repeat and substitute "beta" for "release".
