[drats_users] Outgoing Email question

I'm trying to determine if something is possible.  I'm using v0.3.2b11 
on Windows XP.  I'm having trouble with Outgoing Email.

I have a Gmail account that I want to use to send and receive email 
using D-RATS.  I'm able to receive email into D-RATS from that account, 
but I'm not able to send email out via that account.

Should I be able to use D-RATS to compose and send an email to an 
external internet email account using only the D-RATS software connected 
to the internet?

Or must I send it through another D-RATS station which is connected to 
the internet (and of course successfully so configured)?

If this is something that is possible, I'll be back to ask specific 
questions regarding configuration (and share what I've been trying).
