I have a Sewell USB to Serial adapter. Yes the driver is installed. I am using I am using the default port:  /dev/tty.usbserial I can't get it to work on my IC 91, either. When I start D Rats the icon in the dock bounces for about a minute. I get the "can't connect to serial port" message. After the icon quits bouncing, the error message goes away. But, I still can't connect.

I don't think that the FTDI drivers for Mac will see the ID-1 because
the Vendor ID is different (IIRC).

What kind of USB adapter are you using for the 880? What are you
putting as the port in D-RATS? I assume you have the drivers for the
USB adapter installed, right?
