There is a long-standing issue with D-RATS and the Dongle.  I have
worked on it quite a bit, but I don't have the source for DVTool and
thus can't do much more to make it any better on my own.

I don't use them together at all myself, but my recollection is that
only Dongle-to-Dongle communications work with any amount of
reliability.  Someone else that has spent more time with such a
configuration may be able to offer more insight.
