 I can make D-RATS not respond to pings that come from its own configured
 callsign which will help.

 However, I don't see why it's valid for you to create a loop like that.
 It's not allowed in most network topologies (like ethernet) so I don't
 think it is worth spending much effort on solving for D-RATS.  Is there a
 reasonable use case for this?
