That's a bug in your version of the Python distutils, not in any of the
code you're getting from me.  However, it looks like making a tweak to
the setup config we ship might fix it.  See this bug report:

If that fixes it for you, then I can make the change in the file that
gets distributed.  Perhaps we can take further discussion of this
offline to avoid all the noise for other folks.
