Yeah, the speed is really now dependent completely on how fast you can
pull the images from the map server (and of course, how fast they'll let
you do that).  I think that after you load a few dozen tiles they start
to throttle you a bit, but the map loads piece-by-piece now, so that
shouldn't be as annoying as it once was.
