[drats_users] won't receive without 'raw text' enabled

version 0.2.6.  can't seem to receive chat messages without having 'raw text' enabled.  IF not enabled no receive.  IF enabled always see CQCQCQ[OB]=@........ {EOB] plus "message text"

What am I doing wrong?  any tips.
