I have bookmarked <a href="http://mac-usb-serial.com" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">mac-usb-serial.com</a>. This reminded me that Mac drivers<br>
are actually implemented as " kexts" (kernal extensions). I do not have<br>
MacOS Mohave - does anyone know for sure whether that OS broke the Miklor<br>
MacOS driver?<br>

Thanks for the heads up about open office. I have had issues with excel and open office working with csv files. Did a little research trying to find a good csv editor and ran across this article:<br>
How to open CSV files safely with Microsoft Excel<br>
SupportAbility exports a number of CSV (Comma Separated Value) data files that can be used by other applications for invoicing, NDIS payment requests and other purposes.<br>
THE PROBLEM<br>
It is quite common for SupportAbility users to open these exported CSV files using programs like Microsoft Excel to check their contents before importing the file into a third party application such as MYOB. However, when Microsoft Excel opens a CSV file, it attempts to interpret the data in that file and starts making changes to it.<br>
For example, if Excel sees something in the CSV file that it identifies as a date (often incorrectly), Excel will change the date format in the CSV file to suit the way that it prefers to dates to be formatted. Unfortunately, this generally has the unintended consequence of breaking the CSV file for the third party application that the CSV was specifically designed for.<br>
THE SOLUTION<br>
If you need to open a CSV file in Excel without breaking it, here's how to do it:<br>

1. Open a new Excel sheet, select the Data tab, then click 'From Text' in the Get External Data group.<br>
2. Browse to the CSV file and select 'Import'.<br>
3. In step 1 of the Import Wizard choose 'Delimited' as the original data type. Click 'Next'.<br>
4. In step 2 of the Import Wizard choose Comma as the delimiter (deselect the Tab check box) and click 'Next'.<br>
5. In step 3 of the Import Wizard, you tell Excel not to change your formats. With the first column in the Data Preview selected, scroll across to the last column and select it while holding the SHIFT key (all columns should now be selected). Then select 'Text' as the Column Data Format and click 'Finish'.<br>
6. Click OK to insert the data into cell A1<br>
You should now have a spreadsheet with the imported data but without Excel breaking the formatting required for the intended third party application. Remember to export the file from Excel to CSV again before uploading to the third party application if you have made changes.<br>

Thanks All, I think I got it working.<br>
I tweaked the CSV file, at one point, Open Office took out all the values in the offset column, so I opened another file in Excel that was about the same, and I selected the column and copied it and switched over to the file in Open Office and pasted it in.<br>
Setting it to the defaults helped, because this time when I imported the file, I think, the VHF is on the left and the UHF is on the right.<br>
Not much UHF going on around here to be sure.<br>
I need to learn the buttons on the mic other than the number pad and I know the top switch locks some of the keys, including the two top ones.<br>
It's good to turn those off, as I find myself pressing keys on that thing just by holding it while punching a button.<br>
Anyway, thanks all for helping me get this far.<br>

Why would you want to have vhf on one side and uhf on the other, instead of both sides the same? What if you want to listen to two vhf or two uhf frequencies? The only reason I can think of is if you would run out of channel storage space for all the frequencies you want to listen to otherwise. Just my $0.03 (inflation) worth.<br>

Thanks for the heads up about open office. I have had issues with excel and open office working with csv files. Did a little research trying to find a good csv editor and ran across this article:<br>

How to open CSV files safely with Microsoft Excel<br>
<br>
SupportAbility exports a number of CSV (Comma Separated Value) data files that can be used by other applications for invoicing, NDIS payment requests and other purposes.<br>
<br>
THE PROBLEM<br>
<br>
It is quite common for SupportAbility users to open these exported CSV files using programs like Microsoft Excel to check their contents before importing the file into a third party application such as MYOB. However, when Microsoft Excel opens a CSV file, it attempts to interpret the data in that file and starts making changes to it. <br>
<br>
For example, if Excel sees something in the CSV file that it identifies as a date (often incorrectly), Excel will change the date format in the CSV file to suit the way that it prefers to dates to be formatted. Unfortunately, this generally has the unintended consequence of breaking the CSV file for the third party application that the CSV was specifically designed for.<br>
<br>
THE SOLUTION<br>
<br>
If you need to open a CSV file in Excel without breaking it, here's how to do it:<br>
<br>
1.. Open a new Excel sheet, select the Data tab, then click 'From Text' in the Get External Data group.<br>
2.. Browse to the CSV file and select 'Import'.<br>
3.. In step 1 of the Import Wizard choose 'Delimited' as the original data type. Click 'Next'.<br>
4.. In step 2 of the Import Wizard choose Comma as the delimiter (deselect the Tab check box) and click 'Next'.<br>
5.. In step 3 of the Import Wizard, you tell Excel not to change your formats. With the first column in the Data Preview selected, scroll across to the last column and select it while holding the SHIFT key (all columns should now be selected). Then select 'Text' as the Column Data Format and click 'Finish'. <br>
6.. Click OK to insert the data into cell A1<br>
You should now have a spreadsheet with the imported data but without Excel breaking the formatting required for the intended third party application. Remember to export the file from Excel to CSV again before uploading to the third party application if you have made changes.<br>

It is quite common for SupportAbility users to open these exported CSV files using programs like Microsoft Excel to check their contents before importing the file into a third party application such as MYOB. However, when Microsoft Excel opens a CSV file, it attempts to interpret the data in that file and starts making changes to it. <br>

For example, if Excel sees something in the CSV file that it identifies as a date (often incorrectly), Excel will change the date format in the CSV file to suit the way that it prefers to dates to be formatted. Unfortunately, this generally has the unintended consequence of breaking the CSV file for the third party application that the CSV was specifically designed for.<br>
<br>
THE SOLUTION<br>
<br>
If you need to open a CSV file in Excel without breaking it, here's how to do it:<br>
<br>
1.. Open a new Excel sheet, select the Data tab, then click 'From Text' in the Get External Data group.<br>
2.. Browse to the CSV file and select 'Import'.<br>
3.. In step 1 of the Import Wizard choose 'Delimited' as the original data type. Click 'Next'.<br>
4.. In step 2 of the Import Wizard choose Comma as the delimiter (deselect the Tab check box) and click 'Next'.<br>
5.. In step 3 of the Import Wizard, you tell Excel not to change your formats. With the first column in the Data Preview selected, scroll across to the last column and select it while holding the SHIFT key (all columns should now be selected). Then select 'Text' as the Column Data Format and click 'Finish'. <br>
6.. Click OK to insert the data into cell A1<br>
You should now have a spreadsheet with the imported data but without Excel breaking the formatting required for the intended third party application. Remember to export the file from Excel to CSV again before uploading to the third party application if you have made changes.<br>

Thanks All, I think I got it working.<br>

I tweaked the CSV file, at one point, Open Office took out all the values in the offset column, so I opened another file in Excel that was about the same, and I selected the column and copied it and switched over to the file in Open Office and pasted it in.<br>
<br>
Setting it to the defaults helped, because this time when I imported the file, I think, the VHF is on the left and the UHF is on the right.<br>
<br>
Not much UHF going on around here to be sure.<br>
<br>
I need to learn the buttons on the mic other than the number pad and I know the top switch locks some of the keys, including the two top ones.<br>
<br>
It's good to turn those off, as I find myself pressing keys on that thing just by holding it while punching a button.<br>
<br>
Anyway, thanks all for helping me get this far.<br>

Watch out for Excel, it is evil on CSV files. It mangles them, I use both<br>
CHIRP and programs<br>
for my DMR radios, and I am moving stuff in and out of CSV files, found out<br>
the hard way that<br>
Excel does not excel when it comes to CSV. Libre Office is a good option or<br>
you can look at it<br>
with note or any other text processing app.<br>

Thanks for the tips, Chuck, I was wondering how well that worked. When I exported my radio's memory data from CHIRP to a .csv file, I made a copy of it as an Excel file so I could add my own notes. I haven't touched the .csv file yet and may or may not get brave enough to do that and re-upload to the radio. :-) If I do, I'll edit that file in TextEdit instead of Excel.<br>

I have used Chirp to setup several UV-5R units and it works fantastic!<br>
However, I was trying to setup a UV-5R with the keypad. I see in Chirp<br>
there is a setting for Duplex, but this doesn't appear to show up anywhere<br>
in the UV-5R. I have compared 462.600 simplex and 462.600 duplex and see no<br>
differences in the keypad menu system. if I was to setup a duplex channel<br>
manually, I am assuming I would have to set the offsets, etc., even though<br>
they show no differences on the UV-5R. Is there another trick I am missing?<br>

When you manually program a Baofeng, you must enter the receive frequency and it?s tone, etc first, then program the transmit frequency in the same channel. Doing the offset I believe only works manually in bro mode. See <a href="http://www.miklor.com" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">www.miklor.com</a> for more info. <br>
