<p>Any chance the SMA 'stinger' on the j-pole (or fem receptacle, dunno which flavor BaoFeng puts on their radios) is just a bit marginal so that your j-pole will make contact with the two, but the OEM antennas work with any of the three?</p>
<p>Maybe try connecting the j-pole to the radio that doesn't work, dialing in an idle simplex frequency and listen for it from your other HT when they're a couple blocks or a half-mile apart?</p>
