<p>Well no there's no menu at the top but the Alt+d worked. I got the box to set the port, vendor and model and the the instructions to connect the radio but then I get thie error...</p>

Even if the menu is really missing, the shortcut keys might work eg. Alt+D for Download, Alt+U for Upload.<br>

I do think when Chirp is started with no command line parameters, it should open with a window giving buttons like "Download from radio" and "Open file". Perhaps a bit like Brasero.<br>
