Or something is not releasing COM2.
What that would be I haven't a clue.
That's the only thing I can think of where other software
can use the port. Would you be able to switch the COM
port of the cable to the next unused port? If you have
nothing that uses COM3, but in Device Manager when you attempt
to change the port to 3 if it says In Use, just go ahead and use it
anyway. The Device Manager may be finding setting an old device that
is no longer using the port. That would be my next step had I the
same problems. However I also would wait and see if this is a known issue
with your radio. Maybe one of the Chirp programmer who read the list
might recognize this.

<div

Hi,

I have been using CHIRP since last year when I purchased a
Baofeng UV5R. Since then I have been doing so successfully with other radios for
friends and colleagues.

With two Kenwood TH-K4 (UHF version of TH-K2), who are
supported in the latest versions of CHIRP, I have this error window when trying
to download from the ht:

“could not open port COM2: [Error 5] access denied” after some
60 secs. (“access denied” is “Toegang geweigerd” in Dutch)

Using the Kenwood program MCP-1A with same cable (on COM2 and
original Prolific chip) I don’t have this problem, but the said software is not
as flexible as CHIRP.

Any ideas on how to tackle this problem ?
