I've had periodic problems programming radios with both Chirp and the Wouxun software using the same cable and the same radio. The exact same sequence of steps yields different results. Sometimes it works flawlessly, sometimes you have to dance a jig on your left foot while holding your tongue with your right thumb and forefinger while mentally reciting a voodoo incantation. Ultimately, I just reboot the box and start from scratch and all is well. CHIRP works perfrectly for me for my Baofeng UV-5R and Wouxon 699E, same cable. When people say "it is not recognizing the radio," what that most likely really means is that there is an issue with the USB to serial adapter software. Other than that, if the cable is not defective, the USB to serial adapter software is about all that could possibly be not correct. With the ic 1200 in the clone mode, asking chirp to download from the radio, clicking OK and pushing the smwmw button on the radio, I get “An error has occurred. Failed to communicate with the radio unexpected response from radio”. I even tried without putting the radio in the clone mode......same response.....also tried two other computers (one XP and one Windows 7). When I ask the program to detect the radio I get....”An error has occurred. Unable to get radio model.” Am I missing a step or two or doing things wrong?
