A local ham has a UV5R which cannot be field programmed. What procedure is<br>
needed to do this? I can program using chirp but this wont allow on-the-go<br>

Exactly how is it that this UV-5R cannot be field programmed? Would you<br>
download a CHIRP image from this radio and attach it to a post to this list<br>
so I can take a look at it?<br>

The only way that I know someone can prevent field programming of a UV-5R<br>
is to disable the VFOs by using CHIRP. The way this is accomplished is by<br>
setting the lower band limits higher than the upper band limits. No<br>
frequencies can then be keyed into the VFO and therefor no frequencies can<br>
be saved to a channel with menu 27. If this is what has happened, then just<br>
set the band limits back to the range of frequencies that you want to be<br>
field programmed.<br>
