Well, this is a real bummer.
New cable from Kawamall arrived today, very fast USPS shipping.

Unfortunately, the result is the same, "Radio did not respond"
on write. Radio displays --Rx-- forever. Reads fine when I try that.

Tried multiple times, applying lateral pressure to the plug in the FT60
as suggested by Dan Smith yesterday. Tried our other FT60 several
times, similarly, no success.

Made sure the radio was in VFO mode, FWIW.

The Prolific driver is the one recently reported as working on Mountain
Lion 10.8.2 by Jay Moran with a Kawamall Prolific cable (on a VX-7R),
from xbsd.nl

So:
- Two cables, both Prolific FWIW (and identical appearance down to
the indentations on the USB connector molding).
- Two different FT60s, both of which have recently worked as
the receiver in a radio/radio clone operation.
- The radios can be read into Chirp just fine.
- They don't respond at all on write.

Since others can get this, or very similar, working, I feel like
I must be doing something wrong, but I don't see what.
I get the radio in clone mode displaying --Rx--, then hit the OK
button in Chirp's "Upload to Radio" dialog, with the port set
to /dev/cu.PL2303-00402214, which works for read.

What's next?
Thanks, I start to see the matrix ...
It will take a few days to be implemented but I probably found how to
recognize the right frequency range.
As of today chirp will not load correctly saved images of your uv6d but
if you clone in, modify it, clone back to radio everything should work
(everything but frequency ranges forced by UI).

I'll ask you to do tests some later ... stay tuned ...
Mac users hate to hear this, but the next step is to try it on a
different OS. Either use a live CD as was suggested here and try it in
Linux, or find a friend with a Windows or Linux machine and give it a go
there. That's your quickest path to pointing at checking the radio and
cable and pointing at a driver issue.
Hi,

You do know that you have to have
http://www.d-rats.com/download/OSX_Runtime/KK7DS_Python_Runtime_R10.pkg
installed for Mac, I'm sure you did that.

Now for Live CD, I'd recommend our stable Ubuntu based distro. Many of the
files you need are already in there.

http://vinuxproject.org/downloads

Look for the Stable Distro.
http://vinuxproject.org/Downloads/V3.0.2/Vinux-3.0.2-I386.iso

I don't know if Mac has dd but if it does you can download an img file for
a USB stick and put Vinux on a USB stick - that's the best bet.

Otherwise just download the iso and burn it. Boot up into it, open a
terminal window with control alternate plus the letter t

Then type:

sudo apt-get install python-serial python-libxml2

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:dansmith/chirp-snapshots
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install chirp-daily

Linux info for chirp is here:
http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Running_Under_Linux
*IMPORTANT - *
*Note that you may need to adjust permissions on the /dev/tty(something)
device, or add your users who want to use Chirp to the "dialout" group in
order to let non-privileged users access the serial device.*
After you've booted up, email back if you have problem adding your username
to the group dialout or for finding the /dev/tty mine was something like
/dev/tty/USB00 as it was via USB connection.
