I got the same thing on my Ubuntu 22.04 machine. sudo apt list

apt list | grep python-gtk2 gave the warning about apt not having a stable cli interface. The apt install command gave E: Unable to locate package python-gtk2.

In case interested, the python 3 version of Chirp that I cloned from git
was https://github.com› mpoletiek › py3-CHIRP. This is the version that
gave me the most milage. Thanks to everyone for your help, advice and
suggestions thus far. I have to do that thing called work in a few
hours, so off to bed. Have a great night.
