Hello Rich,

I checked and the BTECH UV-5X3

No manual is available. Since the frequency range for reception is
not specified and you cannot receive NOAA broadcasts, I would strongly
suspect that those frequencies are NOT supported.

Maybe they will be supported someday in updated firmware.

I was going to chide you for asking so many product specific
questions, but now I see why you are doing so, the product
specification sheet and owner's manual are simply unavailable. That's
certainly forgivable. I'd ask too!

Contact the distributor and see if they can get an owner's manual for
you, the transceiver appears to be so new it is not available on the
Internet.

I don’t understand the failure to receive continuous NOOAA broadcasts, which I easily do on a shortwave and FRS/GMRS radios. They are continuous weather broadcasts that don’t depend on satellite positioning. Apparently, there is a way to do the simultaneous display, but not on a UV-5R; only on an UV-5xe – bummer.

You need to which satellites pass over your position and when they are due to pass over. You will only hear a signal during a pass. There are prediction programs you can download such as Gpredict and Orbitron to help you determine that.
