[chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R

A few things about making your own cable because I have made one myself in the past. The radio doesn't use a serial hook up, it needs TTL. If you have a serial port in front of you you can create a small Circuit to convert it to TTL. Just google serial to TTL and it will show you. The next thing you were mentioning about keying up and transmitting. From what I recall you have to keep the grounds separate from the input and output.
Good luck on your endeavors.

> I’m VERY new at this so hope this question isn’t off base! I have a new Baofeng UV-5R and have made my own cable to connect to it. The cable I’ve made is a DB9F to 3.5mm and 2.5mm plugs. The USB to serial adapter that I connect to is one that I’ve used with other things and works fine.

When I try to read the radio with CHIRP, I can see some data communication on the lights of the USB/Serial interface and the radio display changes to almost normal but then goes in to transmit mode and everything stops. I get an error indicating that “An error has occurred - Radio did not respond”.
