[chirp_users] Settings to match Motorola PL tones

"Direct" is called simplex.
On my Kenwood TH-F6A, I can select "Tone" to activate a repeater that requires it, or I can select CTCSS (PL) to filter incoming calls according to a tone. But using one cancels the other. Some radio permit the use of both, hence the CROSS value in CHIRP.

IMO. setting the ToneMode to Tone should have resulted in the UV5 /sending/ a tone. If it were earlier TSQL, and the Motorola were NOT sending a tone, then the UV5 would have not opened its squelch, and you would not receive the call.

And yes the transmission is open to everyone to hear. All that TSQL does is tell your radio to ignore all transmissions it receives EXCEPT for those that also carry the CTCSS tone. Please note that if two radios are transmitting on the same freq, and one uses the tone to open your squelch, you will hear both transmissions simultaneously.
