What cable did you buy? Did you buy the genuine FTDI USB Programming Cable
(Only Sold by BaoFengTech $20.46) or did go for a cheaper $10.00 one? The
cheaper one would probably need a different driver to be downloaded to
work.

This video explains the problems
http://qrznow.com/tyt-uv8000e-dual-band-vhfuhf-radio-product-review-keoog/
Watch the second half of the video.

What happened when you first plugged the cable in to your computer without
the radio? Using Windows 10, I plugged in the cable without the radio and
got a response from the PC. However, it didn't tell me which Com port. I
went to Device Manager, clicked on 'Ports (COM & LPT)' and then 'USB Serial
Port (COM 3)'. When I clicked on 'USB Serial Port (COM 3)' a pop-up window
gave me the information about the FTDI chip in the cable and the driver.
If you didn't get this you may have the older cable requiring an older
driver. After confirming the cable was working, I downloaded the CHIRP
software, I went to "C:\Program Files (x86)\CHIRP" found chirpw.exe and put
a shortcut on my desk top.

I am also new to this stuff, but the video (different HT) helped me through
the programing process with no problems.
