Get aCP2102 USB to TTL UART chip.VERY cheap $2 ish device and install it to your cable.
NEVER worry about any driver again.

This is what a Raspberry Pi is for! I have one with Chirp just to 
reconfigure various HT's that I own. Steve kb1chu
