I sent the results off the group's command:
$  groups
sys adm wheel uucp audio users

As far as checking the fit of the cable against the radio, I've done
everything except cut the edges of the rubber to see if I can make sure I'm
all the way in!

The other suggestions sound a bit superstitious, but I'm open to any
suggestions!
