Yes, the firmware in the BF-997S is  BFS297.
This can be confirmed by Pressing the 3 KEY on the keypad while doing a PowerOn.

CHIRP supports over 60 various models.
Do a Download from Radio to create an initial template.
Make the changes and additions, then Upload to Radio.

It probably already is. It looks like another UV-5R variant so try the UV-5R selection.
